Independence
No advertiser, affiliate partner or manufacturer has any say over what is published here, what score a product receives, or whether a piece runs at all. Nobody but Semi-Functional Tech staff reads a review before it is published.
If that ever stops being true, this page will say so.
How a review happens
A product is chosen because readers are asking about it or because it matters to the category — never because a sample was offered. It is used for long enough to have an opinion worth reading, and the review says how long.
Every review names its sample source: bought, loaned, gifted, or supplied by a retailer. Loaned units go back.
Money
Semi-Functional Tech is funded by advertising and by affiliate commission on some retail links. Advertising is sold against the site, never against an individual piece, and advertisers are not told in advance what is coming.
Affiliate links are marked as such in the page's markup. They earn a commission if you buy through them and cost you nothing extra. No product has ever been scored differently because of one.
Sources and AI
Reporting is attributed. A rumor is labeled a rumor, and a press release is labeled a press release.
Generative tools are not used to write the words on this site. Where one is used to help with a mechanical task — transcribing an interview, say — the output is checked by the person whose name is on the piece, and the byline still belongs to a person.
